This Corporation was established in 1974 with the exclusive responsibility of shipment of coal along the east coast of India to meet the requirements of the thermal power stations of Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). A fleet of three shallow draft vessels of 45,000 DWT, viz., M.V. Tamil Anna, M.V. Tamil Periyar & M.V. Tamil Kamaraj and chartered vessels from other ship-owners are utilized for the above purpose.
